Overview
As designers, we tend to save countless references and resources digitally for future inspiration often without a clear system for referring back to them. Websites We Like emerged from this observation as a collaboration with TRANCE Studio, conveived as an exercise in exploration and curation of websites distinguished by their visual quality, thoughtful execution, and strong design focus.
The book compiles 61 websites I had saved in my mobile phone’s bookmarks and was designed, printed and bound by hand. This project approaches editorial design as a functional means of preserving digital heritage, encouraging differentiation and continued consultation.
Challenge
The main challenge of this project was finding a way to translate the digital experience of browsing and exploring websites into a physical format, while maintaining a contemporary and technical character. The book was conceived as a simple yet visually striking object, working both as a functional visual archive and a source of inspiration.
Outcome
The result is a 18 x 12,5 cm, 242-page book, digitally printed, sewn and bound by hand, protected by a transparent PVC cover.
Information
The grid structure used throughout the book is intentionally simple and repetitive. Each page incorporates a numbered column along the outer edge that simulates the line numbering commonly found in programming code editors, establishing a direct parallel with web development environment.
The texts found on the book mimic the syntax of HTML code, using code structures to reflect the information related to the selected websites, such as titles and links to the actual websites.
The book has a compact and portable format protected by a transparent cover that conveys a contemporary look while adding durability, reinforcing its role as a practical object for use and consultation.
The manual printing, sewing and binding reflect the careful attention to detail and full control over the editorial process from beginning to end, adding tangible value to the final product.
