Overview

35MM museum is a conceptual project on designing the complete visual identity of a fictional photography museum located in Madrid. Housed within the Pabellón de los Hexágonos, the museum presents permanent and temporary exhibitions featuring renowned photographers and takes visitors on a journey through the history of photography via images, cameras, artefacts and developing techniques. Beyond its exhibitions, the museum is a cultural meeting point, hosting monthly talks, colloquiums and professional discussions, as well as workshops and educational activities for both professionals and photography enthusiasts.

Challenge

The challenge of the project was to build a simple but evocative visual identity with the world of photography, without showing overly literal or predictable elements such as lenses, cameras, etc. In addition, the identity needed to be flexible, adapting to different digital and physical applications, particularly within printed materials used in exhibitions, educational content or brochures, maintaining a contemporary character while remaining visually coherent with the architectural space where the museum is located.

Outcome

The result is a dynamic and versatile visual identity that remains robust enough to ensure consistency across all contexts and media, effectively reflecting the museum’s personality, purpose and values to bring the world of photography to as many people as possible.

The name 35MM museum refers to the standard format of analogue photographic film rolls. The flexible logotype functions as a dynamic design element capable of adapting to different formats, media and designs.

The design seeks to dialogue and coexist with the museum architectural environment, the Pabellón de los Hexágonos, a landmark of 1960s Spanish architecture designed by José Antonio Corrales Gutiérrez and Ramón Vázquez Molezún.

The museum identity is reflected across typical museum applications, such as tickets, signage, promotional and merchandising materials, ensuring visual coherence and reinforcing its personality while enhancing the visitor experience both inside and outside the exhibition space.
